Dentina AI dental receptionist review: pricing, PMS integrations and HIPAA claims

Dentina is Dentina.AI’s AI receptionist for dental practices that, per the vendor, answers phone calls, texts and website chats, books appointments directly into the practice management software (PMS) and, as a paid add-on, calls patients for recalls and confirmations. Its two inbound plans have public starting prices, $299 and $399 a month per location, billed annually (checked October 21, 2026). This review includes no independent user reviews of Dentina; we didn’t collect any.

Quick verdict

Dentina suits a dental office that loses calls at lunch, after hours or at busy times and wants an AI to answer them and book straight into a named PMS such as Dentrix, Open Dental or Eaglesoft. The site gives a public price list, a full PMS list and a 30-day free trial, per the vendor.

The weak spots are evidence and paperwork. Every results figure on the site is Dentina’s own, and its usage counters don’t agree with each other. The site says “HIPAA compliant” but the saved pages never mention a business associate agreement (BAA). Outbound calling is priced on request, and the page’s own fine print says some outbound campaigns may not be generally available yet. Use the free trial, and get the BAA in writing first.

What is Dentina?

Dentina is an AI receptionist built for dental offices, made by Dentina.AI in Los Angeles and founded by a dentist, Peter Gabbay, DDS. It answers inbound calls and books them into the PMS, and an outbound add-on calls patients for recalls and confirmations. You can use one side or both, per the vendor.

Dr. Gabbay is quoted on the site saying that after COVID, staffing problems meant his practice was missing 40% of its calls, and that is why he built it. The vendor describes him as a dentist and engineer with “20+ years clinical experience”.

The pitch rests on scheduling rules. Dentina says that before it confirms a booking, it reads your own rules from the PMS: provider restrictions, operatory constraints, appointment-type rules, procedure-specific blocks, provider hours and lunches, age-based appointment types and same-provider rescheduling. It also says it books a whole family in one call, matches callers to existing patient records and doesn’t create duplicates.

Setup, per the vendor, is a call-forwarding rule on your current phone line. Dentina says you keep your carrier and number, need no new hardware, and can be live in about 3 days. Most practices, it says, start with after-hours and overflow calls and later hand it all inbound calls.

The site has a phone number you can call to hear the AI answer, and a sales page that contrasts Dentina with unnamed “Other AI Receptionists”. It also shows three testimonials from dentists in North Carolina, Georgia and New York. Those are quotes the vendor chose to publish, not independent reviews.

The vendor’s numbers, and where they disagree

All of the results figures on Dentina’s site are the vendor’s own and none comes from an outside source. Its home page claims a 100% call answer rate (median across 1,000+ practices, trailing 90 days), 21 appointments booked per month per location from calls that would have gone to voicemail, and “$10K+” in additional monthly production per location, which it labels an estimate.

The usage counters don’t line up. On the same day, the home page said “2,800,000+” calls handled, the plans page counter showed 3,472,088, and a badge on both pages said “2M+”. The site says “2,000+ Dentists & DSOs” in one place and “Join 1,000+ dentists” in another. The ROI calculator is an estimate built on the vendor’s assumptions, such as 8% of reachable patients scheduling each month and $25 an hour for staff time, and the fine print says actual results depend on your PMS data, chair availability and team workflow.

Key features

Dentina’s main features are 24/7 call answering, text-back and web chat booking, rule-aware scheduling with PMS write-back, warm transfers and outbound recall and confirmation campaigns, as described on the vendor’s home and plans pages checked October 21, 2026. Several sit only on the Premium plan or the outbound add-on:

  • Inbound voice: answers 24/7, including after hours, overflow, lunch breaks and emergencies. The vendor says it takes unlimited calls at the same time, with no hold queue.
  • Text-back: sends a text when a call drops or rings out and books in the thread. Standard has one-way SMS confirmations; two-way AI texting is on Premium.
  • Web chat: books patients from your website. Premium only.
  • PMS write-back: every booking, reschedule and cancellation goes straight to the PMS, per the vendor, with real-time schedule sync.
  • Warm transfer: on Premium, Dentina calls your staff, briefs them on who is calling and why, then connects the patient. You set transfers by call type, time of day or urgency. On Standard it takes a detailed message by default.
  • Languages: English and Spanish on Standard, up to 57 languages on Premium. The vendor says it detects the caller’s language and can switch mid-call.
  • Outbound campaigns (add-on): recall calls pulled from the PMS, family-aware confirmations, 24-hour reminder texts, reactivation of patients lapsed 18+ months, and unscheduled treatment follow-up, which the page still labeled “Q2 2026” when we checked it in October 2026, so its status is unclear.
  • Analytics: call recording on every plan, and a view of which calls became patients. Premium adds advanced analytics.
  • For DSOs or 10+ locations: a multi-location dashboard, role-based access (RBAC), audit logs, API and webhooks, cross-office routing and a dedicated success manager.

Dentina vs. what a front desk tool should have

Dentina lists three of the five must-haves on our front desk checklist: PMS-aware booking, PMS write-back and automated confirmations. The HIPAA claim is there but no BAA is mentioned, so that row is partial, and support can’t be judged without user reviews. Waitlists, intake forms, insurance checks and payments are missing from its pages.

Should have

FDA status and privacy

We searched the FDA’s 510(k) and PMA databases on October 21, 2026 and found no listing under the vendor’s name. Dentina is front-desk software for calls and scheduling, and its saved pages don’t mention the FDA. On privacy, the vendor says Dentina is “HIPAA compliant”, but its pages say nothing about a BAA.

Our search used openFDA’s 510(k) and PMA device databases, with “Dentina” as the applicant name and, for 510(k), as the device name.

The HIPAA claim appears twice: as a badge near the bottom of both pages and in an FAQ answer that calls Dentina “HIPAA-compliant by design”. Neither says who checked it. We saw no BAA, no security page and no outside certification such as SOC 2 on the saved pages. Dentina’s footer links to a privacy policy and terms, which we didn’t save. Dentina listens to patient calls, records them and writes to your PMS, so ask for a signed BAA and the vendor’s security documentation before you forward a single call.

Pricing

Dentina’s inbound plans start at $299 a month (Standard) and $399 a month (Premium), billed annually, per location, for up to 3 providers (checked October 21, 2026). Outbound campaigns and DSO plans are priced on request. The vendor offers a 30-day free trial, no setup fee and unlimited calls and minutes.

Plan Price (checked October 21, 2026) What the vendor lists
Standard (inbound) Starting at $299 / mo, billed annually, per location, up to 3 providers 24/7 inbound for after-hours and overflow, scheduling and rescheduling, unlimited calls and minutes, PMS booking, call recording and analytics, English and Spanish, standard screening questions, up to 6 appointment types, one-way SMS confirmations, custom greeting, support by phone, email and chat
Premium (inbound) Starting at $399 / mo, billed annually, per location, up to 3 providers Everything in Standard, plus web chat with scheduling, two-way AI texting, warm transfer with AI briefing, routing to a live person on request, advanced scheduling, custom screening questions, emergency and after-hours call forwarding, advanced analytics, up to 10 appointment types, up to 57 languages
Outbound campaigns Custom pricing Recalls, confirmations, reactivations and unscheduled treatment follow-up, bundled on a demo
DSO or 10+ locations Pricing on request Multi-location dashboard, RBAC, audit logs, API and webhooks, dedicated success manager, cross-office routing

The pricing page has a Monthly / Annual switch and says annual billing saves 20%, but our saved copy shows only the annual prices, so the month-to-month price isn’t known to us. No price is given for a location with more than 3 providers. Next to “cancel anytime with refund” sits an info icon whose text we don’t have, so ask how the refund works on an annual plan.

Before you sign, also ask what the outbound bundle costs and whether reactivation and treatment follow-up are live for your PMS. The site’s fine print says campaigns marked “coming soon”, including unscheduled treatment follow-up and patient reactivation where applicable, may not be generally available yet.

Who it’s for

Dentina fits a dental office of up to 3 providers per location that misses calls during lunch, after hours or at peak times, runs one of the eleven PMS systems the vendor names, and wants bookings to land in the real schedule. Inbound prices are on the site, so you can see the cost before a sales call.

Pick Premium if you need warm transfers to staff, web chat, two-way texting or languages beyond English and Spanish; Standard only takes a message when a caller needs a person. Groups of 10+ locations get a separate DSO tier.

Look elsewhere, or press hard in the demo, if you need independent reviews from other practices before you buy, a signed BAA up front, or an all-in-one platform with intake forms, insurance checks and payments. None of those are on the saved pages.

FAQ

How much does Dentina cost?

Dentina’s Standard plan starts at $299 a month and Premium at $399 a month, billed annually, per location, for up to 3 providers (checked October 21, 2026). Outbound calling and DSO plans are priced on request. The vendor offers a 30-day free trial with no setup fee.

Does Dentina work with Dentrix, Eaglesoft or Open Dental?

Yes, per the vendor. Dentina lists Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, Dentrix Enterprise, Open Dental, Eaglesoft, Curve, Denticon, Cloud9, Dolphin, OrthoTrac and PracticeWorks, and says bookings, reschedules and cancellations write straight back to the PMS. Confirm your exact version during the trial.

Does Dentina sign a BAA?

The saved Dentina pages don’t say. The vendor calls Dentina “HIPAA compliant” but mentions no BAA, security page or outside certification. Ask for a signed BAA before the AI handles patient calls.

Can Dentina transfer calls to my front desk?

Yes, on the Premium plan. The vendor says Dentina calls your staff first, briefs them on the caller and the reason, then connects the patient, and you set transfer rules by call type, time of day or urgency. On Standard it takes a detailed message by default.

Does Dentina replace front desk staff?

No, per the vendor. Dentina’s FAQ says it doesn’t replace your team and instead covers lunch breaks, after-hours calls and busy spikes. Most practices start it on after-hours and overflow calls, the vendor says.

Are there independent reviews of Dentina?

We didn’t collect any for this review. The only user opinions in our sources are three testimonials the vendor published on its own site. Ask Dentina for references from practices your size, and use the 30-day trial to judge it yourself.

How this review was put together

We didn’t use Dentina ourselves. This Dentina review is built from two saved vendor pages, the home page and the plans page, and a search of the FDA’s 510(k) and PMA databases, all checked October 21, 2026. Every feature, price and results figure comes from those vendor pages and is attributed to Dentina.AI.

We didn’t collect user reviews of Dentina for this review, so there are no pros and cons from users. We didn’t search for published studies. The front desk checklist is a first version, written from another vendor’s pages and reviews.
