Bola AI review

Bola AI is Bola Technologies Inc.’s voice software for dental practices: a hygienist or dentist calls out perio and restorative findings and Bola enters them in the chart, and a separate AI Scribe drafts clinical notes from the visit conversation. Bola says it writes into the practice’s PMS and names Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, Eaglesoft, Open Dental, Curve and Fuse, though the products available vary by system. Bola’s pages show no prices; pricing is on request (checked October 21, 2026).

Quick verdict

Bola AI suits a practice on one of the six PMSs it names that wants hygienists to chart perio exams by voice without a second person at the keyboard, and possibly AI-drafted notes as well. Its pages lean hardest on two things: writing straight into the PMS, and letting a hygienist chart alone. The weak spot is evidence: no published study names Bola, we found no user reviews to count, and every speed and accuracy figure on its site is published by Bola itself, including the Heartland Dental case study it cites.

Before you sign, get three things in writing. First, the price and contract terms, since none are public. Second, which of the three products work with your PMS and version, because Bola says this varies. Third, the BAA itself; Bola says it offers one, and its site footer links to a BAA page we didn’t review.

What is Bola AI?

Bola AI is voice software that turns what a clinician says during an exam into chart entries and notes in the practice’s PMS. Bola describes its technology as “best suited for specific ‘transactions’ i.e. clinical exams”, and sells it as three products: Voice Perio, Voice Restorative and AI Scribe.

With Voice Perio, the hygienist or dentist calls out readings while probing, and the vendor says Bola records them in the perio chart in real time. Bola says voice commands move between teeth and fix mistakes, so the clinician doesn’t have to stop and use the keyboard. Bola’s FAQ calls it one of the primary benefits that a hygienist can finish a perio exam alone, with no assistant typing in the numbers.

Voice Restorative does the same for the restorative chart. Bola says it covers history, treatment planning, completed procedures and conditions, and that a visit’s restorative chart can be done in under 2 minutes.

AI Scribe works differently. Bola says it listens to the normal conversation between clinician and patient, picks out the clinically relevant parts and drafts a structured note, including SOAP-style notes. The clinician can review and edit the note before approving it. Bola says the scribe can also help write insurance narratives and suggest CDT codes, and adds that the practice should always review coding and insurance information before submitting it.

Bola’s own usage figures don’t agree with each other. Its home page shows 7,000,000 dental exams, its FAQ says over 9 million, and a banner on the same page says more than 10,000 dentists and hygienists have completed over 3,000,000 charts. Treat all of them as marketing.

Key features

Bola AI’s main features, as Bola lists them on its product and PMS partner pages, are voice perio charting, voice restorative charting, ambient AI notes and direct writing into the PMS. All of the following are the vendor’s descriptions:

  • Voice Perio: records probing depths, gingival margins and recession, bleeding, suppuration, mobility and furcation involvement, with voice commands to move between teeth and correct readings
  • Voice Restorative: charts history, treatment planning, completed procedures and conditions by voice; Bola says it saves an average of 5 clicks per procedure or condition
  • AI Scribe: ambient listening, SOAP-style notes customizable by provider and appointment type, and clinician review and editing before approval
  • Insurance help: drafts insurance narratives and suggests CDT codes, which Bola says the practice should review before submission
  • Other outputs: patient summaries, plus treatment plans and lab orders, per the AI Scribe page
  • PMS: Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, Eaglesoft (versions v17 through v24), Open Dental, Curve and Fuse; Bola says data goes straight into the patient chart in real time. Its partner pages list all three products as supported for Dentrix and Curve, and only Voice Perio and AI Scribe for Eaglesoft, Open Dental and Fuse, although the Eaglesoft page’s FAQ also mentions restorative charting. Dentrix Ascend has no partner page of its own in our sources
  • Setup: no special hardware and no voice training; Bola recommends a quality microphone and keeps a list of suggested models
  • Onboarding: several onboarding packages, with help on setup, PMS integration and staff training, then ongoing support

Bola AI vs. what a clinical notes tool should have

Bola AI’s pages list all five must-haves on our clinical notes checklist: capture, structured notes, clinician review, PMS saving and a BAA, though the BAA and security details are the vendor’s own statements. The gaps are public pricing, contract terms, languages and any published accuracy evidence.

FDA status and privacy

We found no FDA listing for Bola AI: we searched the FDA’s 510(k) and PMA databases on October 21, 2026 and found none under the vendor’s name. On privacy, Bola says it is designed to meet HIPAA requirements, offers BAAs to dental practices and protects patient data with encryption and access controls.

The FDA search used openFDA’s 510(k) and PMA device databases, with “Bola” as the applicant in both and as the device name in the 510(k) database. Nothing on the saved pages mentions the FDA.

The HIPAA and security statements come from the FAQ on Bola’s home page. We found no SOC 2, HITRUST or other certification in our sources. The site footer links to a “Business Associate Agreement” page and a “Patient Consent Form”, which we didn’t save or review. Because AI Scribe listens to the conversation with the patient, ask Bola in writing where recordings and transcripts are stored, how long they are kept, whether patient audio is used to train its models, and what consent it expects you to collect.

Pricing

Bola AI pricing is on request; none of Bola’s saved pages show a price (checked October 21, 2026).

The pages send buyers to a demo, and the Dentrix page has a “Get A Quote” button. The FAQ mentions “a variety of onboarding packages”, with no prices attached. Ask whether the three products are sold separately, how pricing scales with the number of operatories or providers, what onboarding costs and how long the contract runs. One more vendor claim to test in a demo: most practices see a full return on investment within the first month.

Who it’s for

Bola AI fits a practice on Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, Eaglesoft, Open Dental, Curve or Fuse whose hygienists chart perio exams by hand or with an assistant typing. Voice Perio and AI Scribe are listed as supported on each of the five Bola partner pages we saved; Voice Restorative is listed only for Dentrix and Curve. On its Dentrix partner page, Bola also says Henry Schein One’s Dentrix Ascend Voice is powered by Bola AI.

If you mainly want AI-drafted notes, Bola’s AI Scribe is one option, but you will have to judge it from a demo, since our sources hold no study and no user reviews of it. Practices that need published prices, contract terms up front, a language other than English or independent accuracy data should ask for those before booking. If your PMS is not one of the six, Bola’s pages don’t say it will work.

FAQ

How much does Bola AI cost?

Pricing on request. Bola’s saved pages show no prices as of October 21, 2026, and buyers are sent to a demo or a quote form. Ask for the price of each product, any onboarding package and the contract length.

Is Bola AI FDA cleared?

No FDA listing for Bola AI was found in the FDA’s 510(k) and PMA databases, searched October 21, 2026 under the vendor’s name. Bola’s saved pages don’t mention the FDA at all.

Does Bola AI work with Dentrix, Eaglesoft or Open Dental?

Yes, according to Bola, which names Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, Eaglesoft, Open Dental, Curve and Fuse. Bola says it supports Eaglesoft v17 through v24, and its Dentrix partner page says it connects to Dentrix Ascend through a Chrome browser extension. It also says the products available vary by PMS: its partner pages list Voice Restorative as supported only for Dentrix and Curve, though the Eaglesoft page’s FAQ also mentions restorative charting, so confirm what works with your setup.

Does Bola AI sign a BAA?

Yes, according to Bola, which says it offers Business Associate Agreements to dental practices and uses encryption and access controls. Those are the vendor’s statements; we found no security certification in our sources. Read the BAA before anyone records a patient.

How accurate is Bola AI?

Bola claims a 99% accuracy rate, but that is the vendor’s own figure. We found no study naming Bola in PubMed, searched October 21, 2026. Bola itself says accuracy depends on audio quality and the encounter, and that the dentist or hygienist should review a note before approving it.

Does Bola AI do the charting for the hygienist?

Partly. Bola says Voice Perio enters the readings so a hygienist can chart a perio exam without a second person at the computer, but the hygienist still does the exam and calls out every reading. For AI Scribe notes, Bola says the clinician reviews, edits and approves them, and that coding and insurance information should be checked before submission.

How this review was put together

We didn’t use Bola AI ourselves. This review is built from 10 of Bola’s pages: the home page, the AI Scribe, Voice Perio and Voice Restorative pages and the PMS partners page (checked October 21, 2026), and the Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental, Fuse and Curve partner pages (checked October 19, 2026). We also searched the FDA’s 510(k) and PMA databases and PubMed on October 21, 2026. No user reviews were in our data, so the review has no pros and cons from users, and the customer quotes on Bola’s site were not counted as reviews.
